So many mothers who birth by cesarean feel they didn't "give birth," or that their experience wasn't sacred, worth, or empowering.  I think every childbirth requires a profound surrender including the necessity to sacrifice something they desired, hoped for...to bring life into the world. Cesarean mothers are often overpowered by this sacrifice, even in the way they are positioned on the operating table . My initiation through cesarean birth taught me this. I made this painting to honor cesarean mothers sacrifice, and to say the Great Mother illuminates all birth and embraces all mothers during their ordeal.
